The big trip, beautifully planned
Sydney's harbour, Melbourne's laneways and food scene, the coral of the Great Barrier Reef and the vast red landscapes around Uluru — Australia rewards a longer stay. It's ideal for a once-in-a-lifetime tour, a family visit or a stopover-and-beach combination on the way to New Zealand.
Where to go

The Opera House, Bondi and Manly beaches and one of the world's great harbours.

Laneway cafés, sport and culture, then a coastal drive to the Twelve Apostles.

Snorkel or dive the reef and explore the Daintree rainforest.
Sunrise and sunset over Uluru and Kata Tjuta in the heart of the Outback.
Sunny beaches, Rottnest Island's quokkas and the Margaret River wine region.
Culture and customs
Australians are relaxed, friendly and informal, and first names are used from the start.
Declare food at the border. Australia's biosecurity rules are strict: declare food, plant and animal products (including wooden items) on your Incoming Passenger Card, or bin them at the airport. Breaking the rules can mean a heavy fine.
Respect the surf. Rip currents are the main danger for swimmers and surfers at any beach — follow the warning signs, and check the depth before diving.
Vapes and smoking. You need a prescription to buy nicotine vapes, import rules are strict, and smoking is banned in enclosed public spaces in every state.
Drugs and driving. Drug importing or trafficking can mean a long prison sentence and deportation. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal, and penalties are severe.
Respect sacred sites. At Uluru-Kata Tjuta, stay on marked tracks, never enter or photograph sacred and restricted sites, and always ask before photographing Anangu people.
Dual nationals. British-Australian dual nationals must enter and leave Australia on their Australian passport.

Do I need a visa for Australia with a British passport?
Yes. British citizens can usually get an eVisitor (applied for online, with no visa charge) or an Electronic Travel Authority (applied for through the official app, where a service fee may apply). Both allow stays of up to 3 months each time you enter, with multiple visits over 12 months. Get it approved before you fly, and make sure your passport is valid for your whole stay. On arrival you complete an Incoming Passenger Card, declaring any food, plant or animal products.
How long is the flight from the UK to Australia?
Qantas flies nonstop from Heathrow to Perth in about 16½ to 17½ hours. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are reached with one stop, usually in the Gulf or South-East Asia, for a total journey of roughly 22 to 24 hours. From 25 October 2026 to 31 January 2027, Qantas's Perth to London flight stops in Singapore.
When is the best time to visit Australia?
For Sydney, Melbourne and the south, September to April brings the warmest weather, with spring and autumn ideal for touring. The tropical north, including Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, is best from May to October, avoiding the wet season.
What should I know about staying safe outdoors?
GOV.UK highlights bushfire risk mainly from November to February, tropical cyclones in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia from roughly November to April, and dangerous wildlife such as crocodiles, jellyfish and snakes. Swim between the flags at patrolled beaches and follow local warnings.
Can Travel Style book my whole Australia trip?
Yes. We're IATA accredited, so we issue flights ourselves and can add stopovers, internal flights, hotels, car hire and tours in one booking — with one team to message before, during and after your trip.
