An OCI application turns on a few things: how you are connected to India, whether you have surrendered an Indian passport, and a long list of supporting documents. We go through each one with you so the application is right first time.
We prepare the online form, check your photograph and signature against the Indian government's specification, and give you an exact list of what to take to the visa centre.
- Eligibility checked before you pay any official fees
- Your Indian-origin evidence and family documents put in the right order
- Photo and signature checked against the government specification
- Updates until your OCI card arrives
Who it’s for: Adults of Indian origin, or married to an Indian citizen or OCI cardholder, living in the UK
It depends on your circumstances
When you start, we go through these with you.
If you once held an Indian passport, the surrender must be completed before the OCI application. If you haven't done it yet, we start with the renunciation certificate.
Renunciation firstYou will need Indian-issued proof of their origin, and documents linking you to them, such as birth and marriage certificates.
Family basisA spouse of an Indian citizen or OCI cardholder can apply once the marriage has lasted two years, with a registered marriage certificate.
After two years of marriageAnyone who, or whose parents, grandparents or great-grandparents, has been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh. Also serving or retired foreign military or police personnel, and refugees or stateless people.

New OCI (adult) — quick answers
Can I apply for OCI before I surrender my Indian passport?
No. The surrender must be completed first. We can prepare your renunciation certificate application before the OCI.
Who is not eligible for OCI?
Anyone who, or whose parents, grandparents or great-grandparents, has been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh. Serving or retired foreign military and police personnel, and refugees or stateless people, are also not eligible.
What photo do I need?
A square colour photo of at least 51 × 51 mm, with your face filling about 80 percent of it. The background must be a plain light colour, not white.
How long does it take?
Allow 10 to 12 weeks after your appointment. The High Commission of India states 5 to 6 weeks for a fresh OCI card, and says delays beyond that cannot be ruled out.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. Applications are submitted at the visa centre by appointment, and up to three family members can be named on one appointment.
Ready when you are
Rules, official fees and processing times are set by the relevant government or authority and can change. We provide document preparation and application support from your instructions; we are not solicitors or regulated immigration advisers. It is your responsibility to check entry requirements before you travel.
