About The Bahamas

Island-hopping in the bluest water on earth

Resort glamour on Paradise Island, the cays and sandbars of the Exumas and the pink-sand beaches of Eleuthera and Harbour Island — the Bahamas is made for beach lovers, honeymooners and island-hoppers. With a nonstop flight from Heathrow to Nassau, we plan the whole trip: flights, island connections, hotels and transfers, with one team you can message.

Where to go

Also worth considering
Grand Bahama

Freeport and Lucaya, with beaches, national parks and easy-going resorts.

The Abacos

A sailor's paradise of quiet cays, marinas and colourful harbour villages.

Culture and customs

Bahamians are relaxed and welcoming, and courtesy is valued everywhere.

Greet like a local. Bahamians often greet each other with “Whatchusayin?”, which roughly means “How are you?”.

Drugs carry severe penalties. Penalties for possessing or trafficking drugs are severe, police are vigilant, and offenders can face a substantial fine, deportation or prison.

LGBT+ travellers. Same-sex relations are legal, but local attitudes are mostly conservative and public displays of affection are uncommon and may attract unwanted attention.

Choose water sports with care. The water-sports industry is poorly regulated — use reputable, registered operators for jet skis, boat trips and snorkelling.

Questions people ask

Travelling to The Bahamas — quick answers

Can’t see your question? Send us a message or WhatsApp us.

Do I need a visa for the Bahamas with a British passport?

No. You can usually stay in the Bahamas for up to 30 days without a visa, and extensions are possible up to a maximum of 8 months. Your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date you plan to leave. On arrival you fill in and sign an immigration form — keep your portion until you depart.

How long is the flight from the UK to the Bahamas?

British Airways flies nonstop from Heathrow to Nassau in about 9½ to 10 hours. The Out Islands such as Exuma and Eleuthera are reached with a short connecting flight from Nassau.

When is the best time to visit the Bahamas?

December to April is the dry season and the most popular time to go. Hurricane season normally runs from 1 June to 30 November, so keep an eye on forecasts if you travel then and make sure your travel insurance covers you.

Is the Bahamas safe for tourists?

Most visits are trouble-free, but the FCDO reports violent crime and armed robberies in parts of New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama, so stay in the main tourist areas and travel in groups after dark; the Family or Out Islands have lower crime rates. The FCDO also warns of shark attacks around New Providence and nearby cays — avoid swimming at dusk or at night and never enter baited water — and of reckless jet-ski operators. Read the latest GOV.UK travel advice before you go.

Can Travel Style book my whole Bahamas trip?

Yes. We're IATA accredited, so we issue flights ourselves and can add inter-island flights, hotels and transfers in one booking — with one team to message before, during and after your trip.
