About Mauritius

More than a beach

Mauritius pairs powder-white beaches and calm lagoons with waterfalls, hiking, a fascinating mix of cultures and superb food. Resorts range from boutique to all-inclusive, and it’s ideal for honeymoons and families alike.

Where to go

Culture and customs

Mauritius blends Indian, African, French, Chinese and Creole cultures, with festivals all year.

Temples and shrines. Dress conservatively when visiting temples and shrines, and check whether your hotel has a dress code for dinner.

Boat trips. For water sports and boat trips, choose operators with a Ministry of Tourism permit and enough life jackets on board.

Driving. They drive on the left, like the UK. Drink-driving is a serious offence, with very low limits.

Tipping. Tipping is discretionary, but always appreciated for good service.

Laws to know. Illegal drugs carry severe penalties, and it’s illegal to possess or import cigarette papers.

Arrival form. Complete the Mauritius All in One travel form online before you fly and keep the QR code to show at the airport.

About 12 hours nonstop from London Gatwick with British Airways or Air Mauritius.

Can you combine Mauritius with another destination?

Yes — Dubai, South Africa and the Seychelles all pair well, with nonstop flights to each.
